Reminds me about a 4-door -62 Dodge Dart 440 that I saw when I was about 10 years old, still original with dual 4-barrel 413... In the 70's it became a drag-racer & had its rear wheel-openings widened out to the outer edge of the fins & a gap behind the rear wheels, hard to explain here but it looked WILD & sure had a cutom look to it!
It was always red with black roof, just different shades.
In c.a. -87 it was for sale & had a 440 with tunnel rise but I didn't buy it, in c.a. -97 it had been in a garage fire & the interior was burned out, then I bought it for almost nothing & me & Sonja sanded it bare & painted it red again.
I don't remember why, but we sold it before it was completed & later on I heard someone had cut it up to sell different part from...
Such a pity on such a seriously cultural car!
These were allmost as rare in Sweden as a Studebaker.
    Sorry for the off topic...
Somewhere I have photos of it.

That is what the owner of the car said it was in 1960 when he built it

To some (non-Studebaker) people all Hawks, especially of this era, are Golden Hawks (doubly so if they are gold in color).

The door swoops do not look correct for a 1956 K body (Golden Hawk), but do look correct for a 1956 C body.

In the late-'50s - early-'60s, I went to a lot of custom car shows in Connecticut, particularly the big one at the Hartford Armory. This car may have been there and I do not remember it. I do remember a custom Studebaker called the "Golden Rod", that I believe was out of New Jersey. I took a picture of that in Hartford and tried to buy it much later.

Actually if you squint the proportions are kindof cool. The details though are way tacky.

I wonder if this custom is in such a disastrous state is because it was on fire. Some metal panels look kind of wrapped that way.
1963 Champ "Stu Bludebaker"- sometimes driver
1957 Silver Hawk "Josie"- picking up the pieces after an unreliable body man let it rot for 11 years from an almost driver to a basket case
1951 Land Cruiser "Bunnie Ketcher" only 47M miles!
1951 Commander Starlight "Dale"- basket case
            1947 Champion "Sally"- basket case
1941 Commander Land Cruiser "Ursula"- basket case

Was wondering the same thing... looks like the drivers side fin is collapsing inwards.

I bet it would be cool to see the rear of it and the nose.

Interesting, because the doors with the scoops look out of place with the lack of a line in the front fender.

The doors on this car do appear to be correct for a 1956 K body (hardtop).
