The door latches WERE changed for 1956 as stated in the caption below the photo"Doors to be installed soon". And they were.
Strikers too. They also changed them again in 64, making the secondary catch part of the latch instead of the striker. (which had a tendancy to break when they were worn).

Man, looking back over these raises a question: has anyone ever converted a older Stude to the "Newer" Stude locks? Like, is that a bolt on deal? I never thought much about my wagons doors popping open (before I replaced a bad striker); but I don't want people to be driving my '52 if that could happen in a accident.

        Door Latches and Strikers

1956 was when they went from the all sheet steel 4 screw Striker used up to '55, to the cheap 3 screw pot metal one you have on your '61.
In my way of thinking NOT an improvement. The truth be told, neither one is as good as a GM Truck latch and striker as Dave Lester has on his "built on the web" Red '53 or '54 Modified Coupy thing!

As you can see, I love praising things I like, and also mentioning things I kinda don't, all in FUN of course!

But one has a safety latch and one doesn't, haha! The safety latch on the '61 works great! I've tested it, LOL! I'd love to convert to a different set up entirely, but I'm not doing that at the moment.

Thanks for the kind words, Rich.

            Some modifications do improve safety.

              I think I'm seeing double.
Why are so many posts in duplicate on this thread?

The Duplicate posts all happened because those are the old posts that were posted on our old System, and in the transfer to this one, that is what happened.

We do not ever see that on current posts unless someone hits enter twice, they usually get deleted soon.
