  • Modified Studebaker Engine Using a High Rise Intake Manifold

For all of you interested in modifying your Studebaker V8's, here is my latest creation. it is a 289 Studebaker engine, bored 60 over using Ross pistons, extensive headwork using big valve heads and Flow Bench testing. I used a high rise intake manifold from Jeff Rice which is from a Dodge 340 engine. In order to use it with a high air cleaner and a Holley style carburetor, I had to modify a hood and used the pictured hood scoop which I believe matches the car. The car runs good and strong. Also, it is equipped with a Mustang T5 5 speed transmission. According to the information fed into the computer when doing the engine it is approximately 330 HP.Click image for larger version

Very nice setup. The Scoop is kinda eating the Hood Bulge! Wouldn't the R1 Air Cleaner have fit under the Hood? That KN one looks very tall.

So "Big Valve" Heads means; standard V8 Heads Ported with R3 valves?

Thats about a 90 to 105 HP boost, what kind of Compression ratio is that?

The R2 Water Manifold makes me think you were planning for a Supercharger at some point.

Very nice looking - car and engine compartment. I might grab one of those intakes for my 63.

May I ask the OP what size wheels - and what backspacing - you are using?

                    Sweet machine....

If height is an issue, you can buy a 14"x2" air cleaner element.

Really nice car! Just made a post about value of Larks and to me, this one should bring an excellent price although I'm sure you are not interested in selling it, at least not for several years now. I get tired of hearing how cheap Larks should be. They are excellent cars and deserving of way more than most bring but that's just my opinion and everyone has one.

StudeRich is right 99.9% of the time on matters Studebaker, but those numbers are no where, no way in line with my experience. On what dyno figures can we determine this supposed HP boost?
