I might be wrong, but I believe Texas requires BOTH plates to be used as a YOM. Front and rear... And a pair will cost a LOT more than $27. My pair of 1964 plates were around $50 and they were not in good condition.

I know there are two individuals in Texas that specialize in Texas plates but darn if I can find their names/numbers right now. One lives in San Antonio the other in the Dallas area. Go to the swap meets (Pate is huge in Ft. Worth) this summer and I'm sure you will find at least one, if not both, of them selling. I purchased a set for my Wagonaire and my Hawk from them and the price was reasonable. If I find the info on either of them I'll post it for you.
