Cathedral headlights on a C-E

says that this is a Coupe-Express with optional cathedral headlights. I've never seen cathedral headlights on anything but cars; is there real evidence they were originally sometimes chosen for the C-E? They're really cool, I think-- but that's what makes me wonder, 'cause on a restored example I could easily imagine such a neat feature having been added as a "fantasy build".

Seems to me I read in one of Fred K. Fox's columns several years ago, one 1938 CE was special ordered with those cathedral headlights.

I really like those headlights no matter if original or not.

I am sure that Studebaker would have made them available if a dealer or distributor requested it. I restored mine that way also. Know of another, a gray one, in Calif. Likewise I omitted the ungainly side mount. Looks fine on the '37 but positioned too high on the 1938 and '39. Put my spare in the bed. All a matter of personal preference.

Styling is personal preference and sometime buyers vote with their money, sometimes just opinions on web sites.

Just me, but I always prefer the 1937 CE to the two later versions and the cathedral headlights don't work for me personally.

Having said that, if I could physically fit in a CE, I'd have owned one of the three years long ago. They're just impossibly small for taller guys.

Headlamps look great to me. Nice looking truck, well done.
I like the wheels but, not on this vehicle. Can't beat the original design IMHO.

I like the way the headlights mimic the countour of the nose and grill. That said I prefer the styling of the 37 or 39 over the 38. this truck has had an interesting set of mods to make it more usable, though the cruising speed probably would not be comfy on any busy interstate.

Where do folks think this will end up on price? Seems pretty possible to meet the buy it now price. It looks to be a nice clean rust free truck.

As modified that it is, I think that it will be doing good to reach $35K.

Missed that. Never used on the Coupe Express but everything from the cowl forward is State Commander so.... Actually each one of those little letters is separate. Pain in the ass to get them aligned perfectly.

Jerry Kaiser's truck. Started as a cab and bed with fenders and hood apart. Jerry built the truck to be a driver. Everything that Jerry does, he does very well.
