  • 1950 Champion Clock

As I'm getting older by the minute, I need a refresher on the "operation" of my 1950 Champion clock.

I recently bought a dash clock in very good shape. No pitting or glass scratches, for my 1950 Champion Starlight Coupe. Supposedly, it is non-operational but that doesn't matter to me as it looks good installed replacing the silver bullet.

My question: Is said clock fully electric or is it somehow a wind-up or other type of mechanism .

Though the ebay auction photos showed all attached wiring, when I received the clock, it was missing. So much for getting 100% of what one pays. As previously mentioned, I wanted it whether it worked or not.

    Thanks in advance,

    Reggie

It is a mechanical clock with a spring that is wound by an electromagnet. The electromagnet is energized by points that close every few minutes. The points are tripped by the clockworks mechanism. Usually the points need to be filed and the clockworks oiled.

If you hold the clock in your hand and gentle rock it back and forth it should start ticking if it's not frozen up.
