  • Front Fender Welting

The "welting" that goes between the rear of the front fenders and the body, ahead of the doors, which is approximately 32 inches top to bottom is "crumbling" and need replacing.

Can anyone assist in helping me find and or locate the welting so I can change it out with new???

Couldn't find in the Studebaker International Parts Catalog. Maybe I missed it??

    Also, best way to install??

My car is a 1950 Starlight Coupe

    Thanks, Reggie

I purchased both the 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick gaskets from Stude Intl, but as soon as I did a prefitting, it was obvious the 1/8 was more appropriate. The door opening on these cars, at least some of them, is just too small, so the door gaps are ridiculously tight. A 1/4 inch gap in the fender would look out of place, at least on my car. I recommend you look at how the doors fit and decide which gasket would give you an appropriate gap.

Have not installed mine yet, but I plan to use contact cement or something similar to hold the gasket to the body while installing and adjusting the fender. I even thought about possibly using a few very small pop rivets.

Thanks to those that promptly replied. I used the word WELTING, but, as mentioned, it's a SHIM. will order from SI. Guess it takes a while to figure out where to find certain items especially when you only have one car and one model of same.

I find it extremely satisfying writing in the FORUM. seems that there are a lot of good folks out there. Every question or problem I've had, were responded within the same day. WOW!!!

Reggie, if you obtain your chassis and body parts catalog from SI you can search for anything you need by correct factory part number; quick, direct, faultless and, works across the board for any Studebaker vendor.
