  • Among my souvenirs #7 (Dealer promotionals anvils)

One of my favorite collectibles is the dealer promotional items. They were of almost infinite variety and covered the era from the horse drawn era thru 1966. Shown here a couple of rather rare examples that being brass anvil paper weights. As noted the two dealers names are engraved on top, Baker Brothers Motors in Redwood Falls, MN and W. Scott Fox of Fulton, Missouri. These have a definite Studebaker connection in that Henry and Clem Studebaker started their business in South Bend in Feb. 1852 with a forge, anvil and some rudimentary blacksmithing tools. They are 3 1/8" long. I am not certain what year these were offered to dealers but likely in the 1940s or '50s. I find no evidence that they were actually offered by Studebaker so guessing they were from an outside vendor. Would like to hear from anyone who might have one of these.

Richard, the one I had was black-iron and had a similar message, but I don't remember the name. (it was not a Studebaker dealer though) Mine was a heavy little bugger, but looked to be the same size as yours.

I had always thought that these would have been made available to dealers of other makes but have never seen one. Yes, for their size they are pretty heavy.
