Actually I have a 1890's Chevrolet, or McLaughlin as the company was called then.
Interesting Hearse. Much more so because of the perch undercarriage. They were usually done with a platform gearing. Still, in the 1870's I believe there was a feed shortage due to poor crop performance. Because of this many companies produced lighter vehicles in order that the horses could be still worked. However this vehicle also has the lesser wheels as well. So it just might have been an economy model.
