Richard, what did that insert represent?

I'm not sure, was it either the first use of rotogravure newspaper color, or the first insert, or something?

'Seems like it was a unique "first" in some way, IIRC, but I can't remember what it was. BP

It was the first Car Corp. Ad INSERT to be in ALL major City Sunday Newspapers. I have one from the Los Angeles Times.

As you can see, it is a FULL Line Ad including Mercedes Benz.

Actually this 8 page partial color roto catalog was a Sunday supplement within a supplement. It was included within pages of The American Weekly a popular Sunday addition. In all it was circulated to 60 million readers in 40 different major markets. I have copies from the New York Times and The Chicago Tribune

Hi Richard, Is there a similar copy covering the 1957 models? Interested in the 1957 Packard line, surprise.

The postage would be $4.00 for a total of $14.00. Have about a dozen I believe. Email me at rtq11 at aol dot com for further information.

                          RICHARD ,

I realise that at the time , this form of advertising was quite unique ,

so did it have any affect on Sales of Cars . I have a 'Chicago' and 'New York'

copy of the advert and they are dated 8th December 1957 . My understanding

is that the 1958 Studebaker Line plus the new Packard Hawk were released on

15th October 1957 and the rest of the Packard line were released on the 11th

January 1958 . It makes me wonder a bit about the 'timing' of the advertisement.

Do you have any thoughts about this . I mean with the new '58 Studebaker's

already on showroom floors for nearly two months ( and probably not selling at

all well ) , was this a desperate bid to increase awareness of Studebaker Packard

products at a time when a lot of industry pundits thought that the Company was

going out of business . I did talk with a Head Salesman of a Dealership at the time

and he said that they had a lot of " FUN " trying to move the Mercedes & Packards.
