Well, if I may clarify myself, I never asked Grandpa what he meant by "picked it up and turned it sideways." Did they pick up the back end and turn the car? I can't ask, because Grandpa passed on nearly five years ago (still seems like yesterday), and everyone else that I know was involved is deceased now also. But if they were to have picked it up -- both front and rear ends -- then I'd have to say that Dick, you're probably right. But I can't be sure.

Well heres my story. It might have been a stdebaker wagon(for content). There was this contankerous old man that lived about a mile from me, when i was growing up in the country on a farm. One halloween night a group of us teenage guys got together when he didnt give out any candy to the kids.We dismantled his wagon and used the block and tackle he used to get hay into his barn,to lift the wagon and put it back together on top of his barn.We placed it in the center of the top with 2 wheels on each side of the crown. It was a centerpiece ofthe area for a time and even made from page of the weekly paper. The best part was we volunterred to get it of the barn for $20.00 which he gladly paid.It took us all day to get it down because we didnt know the first thing about how to do it .We kept him busy asking him how to take it apart.

3 average sized guys can move a car sideways by lifting a little and sliding it,6-8 inches at a time.I've done it,and seen it done many times in body shops. For heavy cars or pickups,a little water on the floor helps. It's a lot easier with a floor jack, though!

Several times over the years working alone, I have managed to turn disabled vehicles ninety degrees, or in one instance completely around by employing a bumper jack to remove most of the weight from the rear tires, and then shoving the rear tires sideways.
When I was a teenager I regularly used this method to extricate myself from all those ditches that I was prone to spin-out into, quickly performed so that I would not have to explain to the Law "how" I came to be in that predicament, or get stuck with a hefty tow charge that my limited budget could ill afford.
