  • Studebaker signs and sign catalogs

The subject of Studebaker signs has been brought up here on numerous occasions. Thought I would dig out my misc. sign catalogs and scan them. I am posting photos of each below. The cover is shown in the upper left of the image and the other three pages of each are random.

    The catalogs as follows: Photos 1-2. 1963 Uniform Identity, eight pages. Photos 3-4. 1956 Studebaker-Packard-Clipper 20 pages; Photos 5-6 New Approved, 1945, 20 pages. Photos 7-8 1941 Approved Dealer Signs 20 pages; Photos 9-10 Studebaker-Rockne 12 pages.

I might add that I have other sign material that was issued on single page flyers or on occasion 3-4 pages. Those below are the major ones. I can print out any of these catalogs and have two now running on ebay: 1941: http://www.ebay.com/itm/310855406719 and 1956: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121264167604

I can also reproduce most any of the non neon signs for indoor use in actual size (48" maximum). Let me know if interested.

Have any of the big Studebaker-Rockne neon signs survived? Definitely a classy look to them.

Awesome sign catalogs! I have the one from the early 60s, but have never seen the older ones! Great source material for future paintings!!

Thought you might like to see one "in action" so to speak. Since the Rockne was only made in 1932-33 very few of these signs were ever sold. Even photos of them are rare.
This catalog now on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=121265579062

Pretty nice dealership building. Not always the norm for Studebaker.

That building is in Oxford, Ohio, small-town home of Miami University (since 1809).

The building is gone. Long story short, I recognized the name 'Ziliox" as having been the Chevy dealer as I saw a label on a '71 Nova at a cruise near here and got talking with the owner. I googled that name and saw somewhere that a slogan for a while was "Don't be a silly ox; deal with Ziliox!". I did not know it had been a Stude dealer earlier.

My daughter goes to Miami University and I asked a guy who had owned at or at least worked at the BP station since 1957, and he said the location of Ziliox was Main St. (High St. is actually Oxford's 'main' street), but that the building is gone and driving down Main St. several times, I'd concur.

My large porcelain, neon sign has Mount Vernon Sign on it. Are they the only makers of these signs for Studebaker or were there others?

Mr. Q. do you have any other photos of dealerships displaying any of these also incredible signs (below) from your '56 pictures? And would you have any way of knowing how many or which of these sign types were
actually sold? I realize realize that record keeping of this sort of thing probably did not occur.

Sorry, -that didn't work. I was trying to cut and paste the signs pic from your list, Photo 4 of the 1956 Studebaker-Packard-Clipper booklet.

I have seen them with "Lackner" on them, too.
