My position is that disc brake conversions and safe modern wiring should also be encouraged by excluding them from judging deductions. In fact, original cloth wiring (not the reproduction with modern looking cloth cover) should be a point deduction.

Of course, now that I'm older (and mellowed out a bit), I wouldn't care if judging at our events were eliminated. Although, it has been promoted as the highlight of our meets throughout the years...the subjectivity, arguments, hurt feelings, and strained friendships, have lingered long after the silly trinket trophy has tarnished and been shoved under a bed or the back corner of a closet. I would love to see us place our emphasis on the pure fun of "arriving" at meets, renewing friendships and making new friends...followed up by, a big "sigh of relief," as you safely roll back into your own driveway.

We have another topic regarding "rare as hens teeth" parts. Good original truck interior "rear-view" mirrors was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that thread.
I'm with you on the judging thing. I seldom enter my cars for judging any more un less it's people's choice. I usually just go for display only.

If you go to the May 4 2013 Truck Forum page, I posted a photo of the mirror that came with my 57. I don't think it is original, but it looks good and fits well.

It seems to me that one could make a mirror from a 47-50 car with divided windshield fit.

I agree, Roy. All the truck interior mirrors are rare, but I think the car mirrors would work just fine on the two piece windshield trucks. As most, with two piece windshields know, those mirrors can be moved up and down to any retaining screw hole in that center bracket. In my '48 Coupe, mine is fairly centered 'bout half way up.

Starting in '54, the one piece windshields reveal a greater challenge. You can adapt a car mirror for those, but the mounting bracket becomes a problem to overcome. The car mounting brackets use a three point mounting bracket. The windshield garnish molding on trucks has a small two-screw connector to tie them together where a mirror would be attached. For my mirror, I removed that little connector bracket, made another one from aluminum and adapted it to accept a mirror mounting stem. It has served me well for decades. When showing the truck, I never had a judge to question it, or deduct points.

Thank you for reviving this old topic. I have had a mirror from a split windshield GM truck for a long time and had the idea of seeing if I could fit it to my 2R5. Seeing these postings inspired me to actually do it.

Wow, GM Huh, Studebaker must have been WAY ahead of their time like some people like to say!
They would NEVER have used something as Crude looking as THAT!

But hey, if it works for you, fine.
