A rebuilt engine and a recore of the radiator in my original 1960 V8 wagon caused the 160 degree thermostat run too cool. I finally got around to changing to a 180 degree unit. I would use a 180 degree thermostat first and check the actual warm coolant with a candy thermometer. Warmer is better for your engine and the heater will be better for you.-Bill

A job well done!!!
i did this job on my 51 years ago. It didn't overheat badly, it always seemed to run hotter than it should. After trying all of the home remedies with little to no success. I, like you, bit the bullet and cleaned the block.
Dirty nasty job, but worth the effort.....1962 Champ
