  • 56 Champion. Lost a couple of parts, need help,

Now that I am getting close to the end of the restoration of my 56 Champion I find I am missing a few pieces and have searched every place I can think of.
Missing is the nut and lock plate for my steering wheel. It is a TL steering box and part numbers are196821 and 534451. Also missing is the short little curved molding for the drivers side rear door.
Can anyone here help me please?
    Thanks, Nick

I have a '56 Commander. If the parts would be compatible, they're yours. However, I'm not in Fawn Lodge (Lewiston postal zone) currently and won't be for a few days. That should give us the time to find out if the parts are compatible.

So Nick, the Moulding you need is the Moulding below the rear window of the Left Rear Door ?

The commander and Champion will be the same.
the molding is the little piece below the left rear door handle that I have lost.
As to the nut it is with standard steering which may be different from power steering.
Also need a good heater core for under the seat. When I put a little air pressure to it and hold it under water I get some slow bubbles coming up in one corner near the pipes.
        Thanks, Nick

The Heater Core needs to be taken to a Radiator Shop for Re-Core or Repair. You will not likely find a Good, Useable New or Used Heater Core in 2014's World.

WARNING: been there, done that! Take good measurements of the Location of the Mounting Brackets soldered onto the Core, and save Photos of them also.
After core replacement the Shop will not know exactly where to mount the Brackets.

I've asked before but would either one of you have a pair of kick pad retainers? Mine are rotted pretty bad.
            Thanks again, Nick

Hey Nick, first day on my feet after being sick for a few. Okay, so you need the retainer clips for the kick pads, and a piece that goes below the rear door handle (driver's side). The trim for the rear door; is it the lazy check mark that continues the trim from the front to rear?

I have a core in this car, however I can't tell you if it's any good. You'd likely be better off just having your own re-cored or re-soldered.

Yes it is that end piece of the lazy check mark, about 6" long.
The kick pad retainers are the channel like strips that attaches to the front door post where the kick pad sits in. About 20" long or so and is held on by several screws to the door post. A small curve at the top and larger one at the bottom. Mine are rotted out at the bottom curved section.
I'll see what we can do about my heater core. These honey comb ones are not so easy to fix.
                  Thanks, Nick

Okay... I learned something today that I didn't quite 'get' until now. The car has both of the retainers looking to be in pretty good condition. The bottom inch or so are rusty though it seems to be surface only. I'll try to remove them in a day or so (have dr's appt. tomorrow).

Thanks, mine are rotted right through at the bottom and all dinged up. I appreciate your effort.
                      Thanks again.

Here is a picture showing the parts I need on the RR door. I need them for the left side.
