  • Studebakers Found

We have come into a very large store of cars in an isolated community and many of them are restorable or good donors and of contemporary interest. It is early yet but so far we have a full skin 49 Packard, a 57 Silver Hawk, a 62 Gran Turismo, at least one Starlight Coupe with a wrap around (4 panel) rear window, at least 5 Larks, Studebaker trucks, a variety of Hudsons, and other makes including Edsel. To preserve these examples a local Denver body shop will sell them, transport them and fix any damage if needed. We have initial photos and are making more. The entire lot is for sale.

I'm sure I speak for others when I say; get the pictures posted in your thread for the best response.

OK; 'hope you'll be able to post additional photos, contact information, and suggested prices.

(I.e., they could be the nicest $3,000 cars on the planet, but if the seller's starting prices are $10,000, there is a problem. The Lambrecht sale is over. ) BP

Thanks for your response. I am now learning how to post photos on this particular site. Coming. These cars will not be high priced. I have one GT 62 (sans supercharged engine) for $1500. It is still early but I anticipate that the rarest of the machines will cost 5-6K usd and most under those numbers.

Thank you for your kind response. I just started and am now learning photo posting. Coming. We have 5 Larks on one 40 acre lot and I am sure we will find more on lots not yet explored.

No doubt some stuff there worth saving but, don't see anything that won't need 100% attention. Some things are best parted out.

At this time we sell whole cars for restoration or to serve as donors. Parting out is not yet convenient for us. We have 40 years of
combined restoration experience and we are confident we can produce good drivers from these and other machines on the lots. Still, we are always willing to consider other options. Let us know.

Why not just have an auction?

Auction is under consideration but the yards are remote and we do not yet have a good inventory of cars. This requires on the ground searches and the numbers of cars andacres under them is large. In a corner of one yard we found 29 Advanced Design Chevrolet 3100 pickups, a style very popular with the latest "farm truck" interests.

I have gone to many places in WA,, BC Canada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, California, Oregon, South Dakota, South Bend, Indiana for sales/auctions of Studebakers and parts.. If you have decent stuff and advertise- people will come.

If you can make them run and or drive you are always much better off. Old Studes with titles sell OK, Otherwise it is a hard sale. Any car in my state without title is just plain hard to get rid of.

Anything can be made into a driver with enough time and money. I went to see a 1963 GT Hawk last Saturday. The owner wanted $1200. The car looked like many of these vehicles. When I looked under the 63, the frame was totally rotted away, body mounts rotted away, torsion boxes gone and the one door I could open was sagging. I valued his car to where he would have to pay me to take it away. I totaled the value of the few remaining parts, like the Dana 44 twin trak, speedo, radio, 289 crank to about $500 after you spent hours getting them off the car and spending time to locate buyers for them. The interesting thing about this car was that it was a Hamilton built GT Hawk. Engine serial number prefix was "P C".

I agree that, based on the pictures, the sellers may have a hard time finding buyers at the prices indicated. That said, I hope the sellers are willing to allow collectors to purchase them at the lower prices they might command (based on their state of deterioration), rather than sell them for scrap.
