  • Ok this show isn't that bad..

FantomWorks on Velocity created a bullet nose truck that came out pretty nice. This is only the second episode I have caught and the first one had an Avanti in the background. The shop owner is kind of annoying but they seem to do pretty solid $$$ work.

Well...(once again) It's that "What was gained?"....

At least, they didn't whack off the front clip and cobble on a Farm-All tractor grille as seen on a recent offering on eBay. The rounding of the grille opening is in keeping with the overall roundness of the truck. However, the iconic Bullet looks clumsy and kinda lazily "slapped on." I'd like to see some less clunky grille bars and the bullet re-located to the garage wall.

I think the owner wanted the car in bare metal. I tuned it a bit late, I am assuming that its clear coated.

Spot on. That owner annoys me. He claims that if you select him for your project that your vehicle takes precedence over your financial well being and is worthy of zero outing your life savings .Well, not exactly but. Did you ever hear his sales pitch? As long as he get's paid he is a happy camper. That truck cost the owner over 120,000. Just more propaganda b.s. reality TV/unrealness attempt at justifying the worthiness of costly restorations. Very insulting to a hard working middle class person. Is it any wonder why people are turned off by the old car hobby? The bullet nose would look no more out of place if it were mounted on the tailgate or roof. cheers jimmijim

That bullet nose looks like it ended up on the front of that truck by accident. And I mean, accident. Perhaps they didn't do any of the work at all. Maybe they just happened to crash into a 50 Champion that was out in the parking lot, and the bullet nose got jammed into the grill of the truck???

I have yet to see a custom grille on a Studebaker truck that I liked better than the original, but that one is not too bad. However, the bullet nose is a lame attempt to add an iconic Studebaker piece in a place where it should not be. Like most of these shows the build looks pretty good, but the drama in most of these shows keeps me from watching. If they were really about the details of the build, I wouldn't want to miss an episode.

Since I'm not the first to offer negative comments, I'll pile on; I agree with John, that bullet piece looks just plunked on. I don't mind the bare metal look, I do like the embossed tailgate, but if it were me doing a custom grill treatment with the bullet nose, I'd at least have maintained the projection of the design from the car onto the truck.
They could at least, have punched out a little, the grill bars and made a projection of the bullet, along with the grill bars, not too far, but enough to have reflected the appearance of the hood ornament onto the truck body. Maybe they did do this and it didn't turn out, but the bullet nose onto this truck grill, to me, looks little different than those goobers who slap on faux Buick exhaust ports along the side of their car no matter what the car or its age is.
Not impressed. I'm not against deconstructing an iconic design, but please, make an effort in the final result, no matter what project you're taking on.

Frankly, the only 'reality' car show I found to be enjoyable to watch is Overhaulin'. It has an overall positive intent, the drama is generally contained to the build and time allotted and the punking the owner is gratuitously mean, but there is a guaranteed present after the tease through the week.
Sure, the work is primarily paint, interior/sound, body straightening and brand new performance parts installed with an ad for the companies involved, but I appreciate the idea of the fairy custom car godfather coming in and poof! your car is brand new, shiny and generally what was intended by the owner.

And the people on the show don't look like they are on probation. It really is a fine program. Fast and Loud not bad if you overlook Richard Rawlings' occasional craziness. American Car Prospector is interesting because of the cars and getting info on worth of the cars featured. Same for The Car Chasers. Chasing Classic Cars and My Classic Car good eye candy programs.

Are those shows all on Velocity? I think I've seen My Classic Car on Speed Channel and Fast 'n Loud on Discovery. I prefer the objects than the hosts, that's why I don't mind American Pickers from time to time because they can show someone's barn full o' stuff and what gets pulled out moreso than the guys. They're not too bad to listen to but I want to see the stuff.
I watched Car Warriors a couple of times and the concept was interesting, but more back and forth with the teams than I wanted to listen to so I stopped following it.

I've seen some really cool custom Stude trucks and this ain't one of them.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Personally I am just glad to see Studebaker's getting some spot light on TV. People are always doing Chevy's and Ford's. This guy paid a ridiculous amount of money to have this truck done so I am not going to say anything bad about it .

I'll join the pile-on. I agree 100% that the bullet simply looks tacked on as an afterthought. You could put a Crosley hubcap there, or the lunchroom clock, and it wouldn't look much different.

Well...the "embossed tailgate" is factory. Here's mine with the paint still on.

But...let's be honest here. These guys, for the sake of a shortcut to entertain for a profit, have "peed on our leg and claimed it's raining!" It tells us that they think very little of our "throw-away brand." Could you imagine if they took a 1954 Vette, or a '65 Mustang, '68 Firebird, or '56 Nomad, and hacked it up with that quality of custom front treatment and similar finish. No...never!

This is an insult to the audience and the brand...borne of laziness, lack of respect, and expedience.
