  • U-Pol Raptor bedliner applied to the underbody of my Studebaker

This past weekend I finished stripping the undercarriage of my 1955 President State Sedan. It was buzzed with a DA with 80-grit and cleaned with wax & grease remover. SPI epoxy primer was applied Friday night and Saturday night the U-Pol Raptor bedliner with a Saginaw Green tint was applied. I like the texture and the final result looks pretty close to the original undercoating with the Saginaw Green paint over it.

That's NICE! Are you going to do the inside of the floor too? Maybe up about 6 inches? That baby will never rust again!

    Nice job

Charlie. Thats the only way to do the underside of a restoration. With the SPI and the bed liner it will way out last you. For the inside look at a product called lizard skin. Same thing Spi then undercoat and sound deader insulation. Said to drop floor heat by 20-30 degrees.

Agree, the bedliner is a serious way to go. I did the entire underside and inside of my custom Hawk with Rhino-liner. It's expensive, it's heavy, it's bulletproof. I'm never going to deal with rust on that body again.

That is beautiful work. I am planning the same for the bottom of my Hawk. Did you spray the U-Pol or roll it on? Just curious, why green?

You spray it on with a special gun. Why Green it's the color of his car. Charlie is doing a good job. He has more patients than I have. I am like a retired doctor. No patients.

                    Hey Charlie,

I used the exact same product on the under carriage of my wagon. Also did the inside of the spare tire-well, and wheel wells in the front fenders paying special attention to the firewall flange area that's prone to rusting. I was thinking of using their black product, but elected to go the tintable route, too.

I sprayed mine, the kit came with a gun that screws right onto the bottles of the product and you shoot it right out of the plastic bottles. Bottles are marked with a fill line so you can add the tint and hardener up to the line, shake, and shoot.

                    Looks great!

That is awesome work! If Studebaker had done them so well, they would have never rusted away. Of course, they would have cost $10,000 each in 1955, and nobody would have bought them, so there's that.
