  • Old family Studebaker pics

OK guys and gals, here's a few pics of the cars from my family's past. I'll try and get some more soon from my grandad.

This first one is my mom with her (now mine) '63 Daytona back in '85. The '61 Lark front sheet metal is still out in the woods where they threw it down.

Mom with the Daytona after a makover. (For the car, that is!) With the exception of the front end, it's wearing its original Ermine White paint.

My uncle James with a '56 Transtar pulp wood truck, probably from the middle '80's or so. The truck was bought new and used locally by a trucking company that's still in business here. It's now rusting away out at my grandparent's place.

Heres's my Mom again, this time a little younger, but still with a Lark. Taken in '70-71 or so I think. The car is a '62 Lark Regal 4 door with 259, and a few 'goodies' that my grandad put on from a R1 GT Hawk parts car. My uncle James' first car ride was in this one.

This is my grandma with my grandad's '56 Sky Hawk. This was in '68-69 I guess. The car was really unique. Had a 289 with 3 speed OD, and was monotone black. He bought it from the original owner, who kept it in excellent condition. The fate of this car came in '70, when my grandparents and my Mom, who was less than a year old, were on their way from Florida to Georgia to visit family. Late at night, my grandad eased off the shoulder, and the car flipped numerous times when he tried to pull it back too suddenly. My mom was in my grandma's lap in the front seat, and they both were thrown out. Had my mom been in the car seat in the back, the top would have crushed her.

Because of that wreck, my grandad was out of work, and had to sell his '40 Commander and the GT Hawk parts car. He didn't own another Stuude until '79, and that's when he bought the '57 Silver Hawk he has now.

    More later!

Wonderful Pictures Matthew. Thanks for sharing. Your Grandma looks mighty young next to the Sky Hawk
( she sort of looks like Sally Field!). Glad no one was hurt real bad.

Are you sure that's the same '63? It looks so much different in one color.
I like it, and I have never been much of a '63 fan...

One day I'll try to get some photos I have here scanned.
There are several that will prove to be quite entertaining.
Opps!!! Gotta go~ Mike's calling with a bribe...

My grandad just brought me a few more to add...

                        Enjoy!! [8D]

My grandad's first car, a '48 Champion ragtop. Taken in the Fall of '66. His 58 Ford beside it, and his cousin's '57 Chevy beside the Ford. He sold the '48 shortly after this pic was taken. Notice the radio antennai mounted on the fender vent.

A '62 Daytona HT that was later traded for the '56 Transtar. 1988
(Hey Pat Skelly, that's where the seats in your Hawk came from!)

$25.00 car that nobody wanted. '65 Daytona that's still here.

'57 Hawk when first bought in 1979. My Aunt Rachel was 2, and was the only one that 'approved' of the new addition.

                        Snowfall in South Georgia, 1989.

'57 Silver Hawk he still has now (then with '60 trim)

Same Hawk on Fernadina Beach, FL, 1986. (For a 'modern' pic of this car, look at my grandad's signature pic, one post above this one)

My uncle's '51 Champ after sanding and primer, 1988. (No other body work done)

                        Here's the '51 today.

'81 Avanti in 1995. Daytona Beach speed run. [)]

'63 GT Hawk the day they picked it up in Daytona Beach, 1991. (Car is currently getting a repaint)

Another view of the '56 pulp wood truck, now rotting in the woods...

'56 Sky Hawk the day they brought it home in 1991. Bought it from Dr. Cade in Gainesville, FL. (Title is still in his name) The car is currently 'waiting in the wings' to be restored.

My grandad with the '56, named "Ferrous Oxide".

Thought I'd share this one as well...
My grandad in 1951, at age 2. He still wears a cowboy hat to this day. [8D]

I remember that 'snow storm' of '89~ I was brand new to the Navy and stationed at NAS Jacksonville for my first tour at the time. Shut the whole County down it did!!! Those of us from points North had no problems, but the locals didn't fair too well~ unless they owned a body shop!!! [:0]

Just think~ by this time next year I'll be RETIRED with 20 years of Naval Service...
