  • Went fishing yesterday with my motor home see what I caught!!!

Yesterday I had a chance to try out our mew motor home on a short 3 hour round trip to Modesto, Ca. to pick up a car I found, I have a 2008 Dodge hemi powered truck I use most of the time now and also still have my 2001 chevy truck for hauling but yesterday I wanted to try out the new rig. as you can see in the pictures I got a Studebaker it is a 55 commander 2 door hardtop with a 53-54 front clip. this car has been sitting in a back yard for some time but body wise it is rather nice with only rust in the passenger side floor and even that in not really bad by Midwest standards but for some California people might think it to be really bad, these pictures are as it sits on the trailer today but after getting it off and cleaned up some I will post more pictures. being a commander it is a V-8 car and it was a 3 speed car, the engine and trans I got with it is a 60 259 and a speed both were out of the car. owner said the engine just froze up one day while driving , sound like a spun bearing, also the rear window got broke while sitting in the yard but no problem as I have a few in the shop in fact I have most every thing needed to get this going again. The car is for sale as it sits and will be even after I put more thing together for it. Interested anyone ???

Also in the trunk lid is a metal tag from the dealer Standard motors of Richmond anyone know if that is Richmond California or Virgina??

That is a very unusual Paint Combo, being the Salmon Color Top and Grey Bottom.

What size Hook and Line did you use to pull that thing out of water Bob?

Rust free 60 hawk with 76 Firebird front clip, engine, trans, rear end, seats, and steering set up, been off he road for some time and have not spent much time trying to get it running. I was told it has the 455 engine
. here are some more pictures since I spent some time cleaning today, it is better than I figured.

Front air scoop nice as they come.

              near perfect hood.

              rust free rear end section.

nice clean side and all glass is tinted, note the 2 tone paint strip, very nice.

              surface rust floors

              the worst spot pass side.

it had a 3 speed floor shift at one time. driver side floor solid and only surface rust.

solid trunk floor with only surface rust.

more pictures upon request, it will be on e-bay very soon.

Amazing how many of these near rust free cars, have the front floor boards rust from the inside out. Nice find.

Allen , my opinion on that is that most original windshields leaked in the corners, keeping the floors wet most of the time.

My late 1962 Lark Y body which apparently spent all of its life in Phx where it's very dry most of the time; it too had that (slight) rust where the batwing attached to the floor directly under the corners of the windshield.

I think a 55 hardtop with the butterknife trim and a 53/54 nose is one of the best looking Stude combinations going.

                        Scott Hall's Speedster...

On the one Bob just dragged home, I'd keep the 53 nose and paint the car back the original colors. The pink and grey are beautiful together.

Yes that sure sounds like it....water came over the corners of the rubber down between the dash and the body , behind the firewall pad and got sucked up by the rug. If it didn't get dried out it rusted its way through. I've put in a few windshields in now and I use a hi grade sealer that stays flexible , I really put it to the lower corners , makes a heck of a mess but it cleans up . The windshield doesn't leak though <g>

You should market whatever in H$LL you are using for bait. I think you'd be rich.

In any case, congrats on another nice find, Bob
