  • Bullet Nose LARK??

We are starting to put Josh's 60 Lark HT back togather. We got the rebuilt engine installed last week. Now since we already had the front clip off,We decided to do some body repair while we had it off. There was some old damage to the right front corner of the car that had been poorly repaired many years ago. I started grinding away some old bondo and found what looked suspiciously like a large caliber bullet hole. Thinking it was probably a hole punched by the bodyman,I didn't think too much about it. Then I found another. Hmmm... Yesterday I found the third one. UNmistakeable! Looks to be about a .38 hole just under the right head light.with another directly behind it. They didn't even try to straighten this out. Just Bondoed over it.
Then I moved around to the right front fender. I found 4 Buckshot sized holes there. It looks like someone was trying to take out the right front tire.

Lucy the Lark was definitely in a gunfight at one time. I told Josh he should change her name to Bonnie Bullethole.

How many bullet holes in the back... that's where the robbers car would have them... if in the front, look on the roof for traces of a gumball machine light!
      Maybe this was Barney's car!

Maybe it wasn't the first time the engine gave it's owner trouble???

Havent found any holes in the back. It seems she faced her attackers head on. She didn't turn and run. If they took out the front tire and it ran off the road, that would explain the damage to the restof the car.

No exidence of it being a cop car. It's a 2dr HT. Not really the car of choice for police work.

It looks like someone was in front of it with a pistol and someone else was beside it with a shotgun.

There was a famous bank robber in these parts once upon a time that drove a Studebaker. But his was a 56 Golden Hawk!

How many field cars have you seen full of bullet holes? Was she ever abandoned?

We got all the bullet holes plugged, patched, and painted.
Josh,Mitchell, and I set the front sheet metal back on the car today.

After being apart for more than a year,we seem to have lost some parts and forgot where other ones go. but we are putting the puzzel togather one piece at the time.

The body and paint work turned out pretty well for being done by a Bricklayer and a teen aged kid. She's all black and shiney from the windshield forward. Game plan is to get her running and driveing again, then get back on the rest of the body and interior.

Josh is excited about being able to drive it again. i think my favorite photographer is in town,so maybe I can get her to post some pictures of it tomorrow.

The car could have also been somewhere, moving or not, and just got in the way of a gun fight.

We got it togather enough to move under it's own power. At least that's waht we thought. Josh fired it up and dropped it in drive but nothing happened!

For some unknown reason,it was dumping the ATF on the ground. Upon reflection, I'm wondering if I remembered to put the plug back in the torque converter? I am getting old Ya'know.
                        I hope that's the problem !

                        Pictures should be up today.

Doubt if it was a field car, cause if someone took to shooting at in the woods every piece of glass would have been shot out. It sure was fun shooting up old abandoned cars,Ive done a few,but not Studebakers. I liked shooting up Chevy Vegas the most.

Most Chevy Vegas were already shot long before a gun had to be involved.

Maybe at some point it was parked out by a road with a for sale sign on it and a couple of fellows juiced up on brews on their way home from a night of jacking deer decided to take a few shots at it.
