  • Studebaker in Germany - Early Thirties?

I am hoping someone here might have information on the Studebaker cars in Germany in the early thirties? The reason I am asking is because my grandfather owned a Studebaker dealership in Hamburg in 1933. The Gestapo ruined his dealership and the goodwill he had built up. I have very little info on the cars he would have worked on in Germany. I know this is a long shot but I am hopeful someone has some information

Over the years there have been a number of posts with photos of pre-war Studebakers in Germany. Don't know if there are search terms that could pull them up or not. Maybe others here remember some of the topics.

First place to keep an eye on is www.ebay.de. Often, German market Studebaker literature comes up for sale.

          Hi Craig,

Thank you for that suggestion. I did a quick search and came up with two dealership poster pics already. I see there were two Studebaker dealerships in Hamburg in those pre-war years. I will show them to my mother in the hopes they jog her memory.

          Thanks again

Had a good conversation with my mother today. She clarified a few things. My grandfather worked for Studebaker or the company who imported them into Germany. He would do the inspection ( and possibly final installation of parts?), and test drive them before delivering them to the dealer(s). I think there were two dealers in Hamburg at that time. My mother said she was young then (early mid thirties), but that she remembers riding in some very luxurious cars in the day. In the late 30's my grandfather had his own garage already and took a badly wrecked Studebaker and used the mother for a large boat he had built himself. He did use the boat for a short while before he was forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1939. They had to leave everything behind, including the boat. I will post a photo of the boat later. One of the other cars he owned earlier on was a German Aga. Generic photo posted below
