  • Speaking of Coupes Express (or Coupe Expresses?)

Today at the Nancy and Chester's 19th Annual Show at their house near Bridgewater, VA- the trio ('37, '38 and '39) belong to Chester. The custom '37 I had not seen before and I didn't find out anything about it, but is NICE!

Personally I feel about modified Coupe Expresses the same as I do about the 1953-54 Coupes and hartops. That is, whatever modifications are made does nothing to improve on the original design. (I have owned seven Coupe Expresses - none modified).

I absolutely admire a well done restoration on a Coupe Express or 53-54 Coupe or Hardtop, but if there are ANY Studes that cry out to be modified, these are the ones. I'm not talking about extreme modifications, I'm talking taking the timeless shape and removing the unnecessary barbs, correcting the stance, and making a smooth vehicle even smoother. I believe the designers of these cars would completely agree with what has been done to examples like this 37.

Those are truly lovely. I think that all of the pre-war models from '37 to '41 are gorgeous, but these are true exemplars.

Of course I respectfully disagree. That said the yellow '37 that was at the Intl meet in Colorado Springs and on the cover of TW was nicely done but the modifications were very minor and extremely well executed.

Good grief! I am a diabetic. Fortunately (so far), I don't have to take insulin. However, after this much eye candy in one post...I might need an extra pill or two.

...and you are allowed to. If we all liked exactly the same cars done exactly the same way it would be a pretty boring hobby.

The three Coupe Expresses in the first photo appear to be stock. Assume these are Nancy and (Chesterfield's [sic]) Chester Bradfield's. The remaining photos show a cleanly modified CE. All are superb!

My 39 will be kept very stock on the outside. Tail lights are the exception. Interior too except the dash. It has oversized brakes though and modern running gear so I can take it anywhere including the interstate with safety, even pulling a small trailer occasionally.

If it had been in better condition when I got it I might have considered keeping it all stock.
