  • Paul McKeehan, 1953/64 Starliner GT.

I read the article "Starliner GT?" In TW Vol. 35 No. 12 it was interesting, and I'm too tired to type about how amazing I think this car is, but it seems to be a perfect car. I wanted to learn more about such an amazing car, but all I found was a mention in the skyrop registry about it being on ebay in 2006, could someone provide me with some more info on this car and it's current whereabouts. Please I'm super curious about it, maybe a copy of the ebay ad?
    Thank's
    Danny

Paul is still alive and living in LA. I live next door to his son. When the ebay ad came out, I took it over to his son and said look at this cool Studebaker. John (the son), said he remembered riding in the back of that car as a kid. Not to much fun. I am sure Paul would be more than happy to talk to you about it and all his modifications.

He still loves Studebakers, just doesn't have any now.

p.s. As I remember the car in question was in FL at the time and sold to somewhere in the South. Paul said it still looked much like he had it when he built/modified it.

I thought that car was written up in TW some years ago.

That's where I saw it originally.

            Found???

I have reason to believe that I bought this car today,it's currently in Englewood Florida and the guy I got it from was going to weld a stock top in it and make it into a hot rod.I'm starting to think that might not be such a good idea if this car has history. This car has the Avanti Steering wheel and a really nice wood dash panel in it.Click image for larger version

Dash looks right, seats are wrong though. Oh man I really want that. If you want a car to rod I have a rust free 53 C coupe basket case I would totally trade you for.

The Dash is a '55 President Speedster with a Wood Grained Panel added, very nice! Yes since Paul was a real Studebaker Designer, this Car is way more than Special!

It is clearly the same Car, even has those '53 Sedan front Bumper Guards placed farther outboard then they were designed to be, awesome Car.

I wasn't looking to build a hot rod out of it. Actually I just sold a 55 Commander on Ebay Friday. This fellow came to me to see if I wanted another one to sell so I bought it. I have a folder with it that contains the article as well as the sales on Ebay and a letter from Mr McKeehan,it still has a Nevada title. I'm thinking this car deserves to be restored close to what it was in 1964 with the skytop and all instead of welding the steel top back into it. But now I should probably sell it to someone with the resources to fix it right although the temptation to keep it is very strong.

This Car is EXACTLY the kind of Car that Mr. Dick Steinkamp likes, in a lot of ways it is like the '53 C/K Pickup, the "KartHauler", just waiting to be put back to it's former Glory! Hint, hint!

I get wanting to keep it, if I had the means I would be all over it, and restore it over time. I am so glad you saved it from having it's history destroyed. Just by buying it you did the hobby a great service. I think Rich has the right idea, maybe we should start a petition for Dick to buy and restore this car.

I'm thinking I might just clean it up and assemble what ever is there, put in some fresh gas and a battery and get it going then decide what to do with it,probably go back to Ebay with it and see what it does there in running condition although the guy told me it doesn't have reverse. He was going to put an Explorer frame and Ford power under it,kinda glad that didn't happen.

No reverse? Might be an easy fix. What kind of transmission is in it?

I think the drivetrain is whatever they used in 1964
