  • Studebaker Sign

I was at a car show today and a friend walked up and handed me a sign. It looks old and some of decal is missing. Question is did they use decals and is this a original , or is this a copy? It is thick steel and is one sided. I figure the knowledge on this forum might know! Thanks!

I'll bet it's real as it can be!

Next question is if it is original, is it better to leave it as is, or get a new tape copied after original design and update it?

I would leave your sign just as it is. It looks very original. Here is a sign I have in my collection believed to be a reproduction that is similar however it is two sided. You got a great find.

I think this is the correct answer. By-the-way, what is it with folks here with friends who give them these cool Studebaker signs? Do I need to make some new friends or what?

I've had friends give me various Studebaker parts over the years but, nothing as cool as your sign!
Enjoy it as is and keep those most excellent friends!

DECAL? If that's a decal applied to metal, then no, it is not an original for the period the sign depicts. Would have been porcelain/enamel on steel.

It may be porcelain, but still is chipping off, if you try to wax it, the color comes off. Will leave it as is. Thanks for the info!!
