  • Wire Wheel Covers

Does anyone make a wire wheel cover that looks somewhat real?? I was thinking of wire wheels for the Hawk, but found out I can't afford them, so may possibly settle for covers.

The wire discs and centre caps were an accessory available since 53, I believe. They came standard on the 55 speedster and are often referred to as "Speedster caps". Bob Petersen sold me a set and they are not cheap. They are also heavy. Gonna keep my light full discs on 'til after the races. They bolt on which is an advantage, but because of the weight, they should be in place on each wheel when balancing the wheel. Good luck.

Have you considered wire baskets? They can be had quite cheap, especially used and look alot like the real deal.

I would have to say that Chrysler corp from bout 1980 thru 87 offered a 15 inch cap that I would have to say is the epitome of a wire wheel. 5 th avenue, new Yorker, fury, dodge diplomat. Wire wheel simulated wheel cover. You will need the 15 x 6 Chrysler product rwd type wheels. The wheels and covers are out there. The covers may also fit the ford wheels. Got a set hanging on my wall waiting for the right car. Check e bay or the boneyards. search google images. cheers jimmijim

Sounds like a great alternative. From whom are they available.

Well these are just the caps and mounting hardware but I think they'll work with other wheels, but these are at a low no reserve bid http://www.ebay.com/itm/Appliance-Wi...ed6f79&vxp=mtr
I'm kind of lusting after these ones just cause I also really love the tires, there are 5 hours away from the OP but the seller will drive up too 100 mi to meet a buyer. So it might bw worth it if they went low enough. http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-Appliance...0e4f1d&vxp=mtr
That's all I got for now, to be quite honest I never pursued finding a set because I didn't yet have a car to put them on. Not sure were you'd look to buy new.

I agree with Jimmijim on the Chrysler 5th Ave. They bolt on and the centercap looks kinda Packard-ish. We had 2 5th avenues back in the day. Great cars! the only problem was, we lost several center caps.

The better wire wheel covers are made of stainless steel....this is important....the cheaper chrome-plated mild steel covers just don't hold up!

I have at least a couple of wire wheel cover sets that are of course used, but would be willing to part with a set for a very reasonable price. PM me if you are interested.

If the bolt pattern is the same as mid 50's Chrysler products, look for a set of Wire Wheel Accessory covers. They are really hard to tell from real wires...and they are a "bolt-on"...http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-1953-19...r#ht_490wt_895

If you are lucky enough to get the bolt on assemblies is a bonus but they will stay in place without them. jimmijim
