  • End of Gustafson's of Redding, Ca.

Well, the Enviro-Nazi's have struck again! Aparently, these people have found a way to circumvent the laws and sue legitimate Businesses out of business. Mr. Gustafson (Jr.) has been forced to crush so many of his vehicles every month or face fines from a "progressive" judge and some Enviro-Lawyers.

I found this out because of needing a part from one of two Stationwagons they had there. Both were tucked out in the hinterlands of the place. The Enviro-Lawyers insisted that Gustafson start out with the oldest vehicles first. That means all the Ambulances and trucks from the early thirties and late twenties went first. The two wagons I was interested in are gone as are two of the Champs (pickups) that he had. Nauseating, just... nauseating.

Anyway, I'm going to attempt the rescue of a Champ he has (not that I can really afford to...). Don't know how successful I'll be, let alone if I can actually do it. The truck has two side mount spares on it that are so well done as to (at least) look factory. If anything, I'll save the bed (and VIN plate if I can get away with it) and set it up as a rather cool trailer to pull behind Bess (if I can ever get her back together).

It's so frustrating how these people have circumvented our rights with the courts. I'd swear it's getting like living in a Communist country in California. A place where the lawyers of the Polit-bureau come after you with court decisions the legislature is unable to effect. Basically, the Courts are now taking over the legislation of our state. Welcome to the People's Socialist Soviet Republic of California!

Sorry, I know this is a bit of a rant (hence the bracketing smilies), however I also wanted to "get the word out" to anyone who wants anything at all from there. He says they've nearly cleaned him out and it's just a matter of days before they bring the crusher in again. I wonder how long it will be before they go after Big M's in Williams? I mean, they're right off I-5 and in full view!

Ron, What Gustafon's should do is call in the "save our history bunch" and make them stop crushing these historic autos. You know kinda like the big trees. How sad.

I just don't get it, what their BEEF is. To come on someone's land and decide what they will get rid of, for what? Why?
He is not hurting anyone, except maybe some rich developers that want to make Millions with more new housing tracts that we can do without, so WHO cares?

I am every bit a "green minded" person, at work and at play... but I will tell you.... this is absolutely retarded.... There has ot be somehting, somewhere that demonstrates that they are doing somehting illegal by making them clean up their property... there is a big difference between city inspectors who measure the height of your grass so the neighbors don't have a cow... and telling you what to do with your acres and acres of land. It isn't like they are polluting.....

Whats next? Banning the driving of old cars becaus ethey use "leaded" gas.....

It used to be that businesses were "grandfathered" in unless they were sold or the business changed. Now, that doesn't even seem to matter.

This rminds me of when a "lady" came to my door and wanted me to sign a petition to get rid of a junk yard on a state highway near her home. I asked how long she has lived there. The answer was something like five years. I said that the junkyard was there in the 1950s when I used to go there. She is the one that moved in near a junk yard and then wanted to get it removed. Of course, we did not sign her petition. The junk yard was completely removed shortly after that.

Get used to it, Ron. The mentally ill are in charge, for the forseeable future. I believe America will rise again, but probably not in our lifetimes. Only thing we can do is batten down our hatches and try to figure out how to pursue our lives under idiocy.

Yup. The Corporatocracy we've willingly stood aside for - it cares NOTHING about nostalgia or history. NOTHING. Were these folks green nazis? Who knows. What you CAN bet is that there's an underlying motive of profit for someone. BIG money says there's profit in scrap metal - guess what's gonna happen? BIG money says a piece of land is worth more as an industrial park - guess what's gonna happen to that property? BIG money sees liquid gold in tar sands? Guess what's gonna happen to landowners who protest about having a pipeline on their property?
My favorite junkyard in Fresno - Romo Auto Wrecking - barns full of vintage parts and a yard full of old tin - shut down because corporate powers wanted to put new tilt-up concrete structures so they could rent them. It was an easy decision for the city - which had bettrer revenue potential? Bye-bye Romos! And it was NOT "greenies" who disloged that business that had been there since 1927. It was "greedies" that did them in.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Uh, yes exactly! They've already tried getting classic cars limited to car shows and not allowed to be driven on the California roads and highways except with expensive temporary moving permits. That attempt failed. Then it was attempted to re-instate the smog testing for classic cars too. This would have included some kind of modified rendition of the NOX device. That only baaaaarely failed. So now the activists are getting together to sue the junk yards out of existance. Chairman Brown warned that he and his co-horts would be doing something like this the last time their attempts to get our vehicles off the road failed. He, like Obama with guns, would like to see us without replacement parts to keep our vehicles going. Where Obama says that a gun without ammunition is only a club, the Chairman says that a classic car without replacement parts is either scrap metal or a museum piece. Either way, the Chairman and his ruling communist junta get their way.

The really scary part is that in the last election, the liberals gained a super-majority in the legislature here in Soviet California. This is not uncommon throughout the U.S. Those of you outside of California are going to be dealing with this kind of issue before long as the liberals in the other states have a tendency to follow ours. Unlike California, which has the initiative system, most states have no way for the people to do an end-run around their legislators and the courts. Then again, the latest actions of the legislature and Chairman's office have demonstrated that they hold the people's decisions in utter contempt and refuse to abide by them. Thus one wonders how long we will be "allowed" to have our classic cars.

The enviro-nazis call them gross-polluters. Funny thing is, my old stationwagon gets mileage comparable to a modern car! Well... on the freeway anyway.

Old cars are a threat to the progressive party crowd because they can't force you to drive the cars they want you to drive or use mass transit. So they figure if they can drive the spare parts/potential drivers out existence the old cars will disappear. California is lost and I am afraid Washington maybe next, those clowns in Olympia admire everything California does.

I tend to withhold judgment until I know both sides of a story. If there was litigation or county code enforcement there would be a public record of it that could explain the background of what happened. Jumping to conclusions based on limited information and the writings of one individual is a dangerous thing.

Please bring more facts to the table so we can properly evaluate what transpired and then formulate opinions on what transpired.

Well...once they remove and crush the old evil cars...perhaps they will screw a couple of tiny little squiggly light bulbs in the ground...slather copious amounts of sun screen over the place...install solar panel no smoking, and no praying signs...we will then know...The world is saved! However, be careful not to offend anyone by making skeptical comments. The area will be patrolled by PC enforcement thought police ready to pounce on any offending citizen and drag them off to a re-education camp. Good Grief!
