Price Of A Paint Job On A Hawk

A good quality clear on top of single stage paint is the way to go if you're not going to basecoat. I usually color sand up to 3000, sometimes 4000 then buff. Some clears are very hard to buff when you let them set for a couple of months. The single stage you sprayed will not buff out the same as just buffing a clear applied on top. Single stage has the clear mixed in, that means you will be sanding and buffing clear and color at the same time.64 Champ long bed V8

Well I went to the paint & body shop today for final inspection. The paint job now looks very nice, and woulda trailered the car home, except it has rained all day. Hopefully tomorrow, if we get a break from the rain.
We may now have the only black & white GT Hawk in the SDC, but that was the final choice. While not "correct" the white top looks great with the black body, and will keep the car cooler inside. Anyway its just a GT, that we intend to drive.
As for overall price, I hate to think about it. Suffice to say, even at only $30 per hour, the labor was more expensive than the materials. I seriously doubt there will ever be another Stude painted under my ownership. I do not plan to buy any more Studes, but would never even consider buying one that needed paint. It is just too expensive and too much of a PITA.
As stated initially in this thread, the goal was just to have a nice looking driver. We now have that, but I just need another month of spare time to put the car all back together. Will post pix here then.Last edited by JoeHall; 07-04-2013, 05:59 PM.

Leica Camera ($$$$) had a slogan I'll always remember:
"Quality is appreciated long after price is forgotten"
Glad you are pleased with the outcome. I'll soon be shopping for a paint job on a Jag...think I"ll bring a chair along so I can be sitting down for the quotes.

looking forward to the pics, wherever they are.
i reckon the white top will keep the temps down in the "greenhouse" a bit, and look cool!
