I'd guess this horn button is for late '53 (non tri star) and all '54. (With Deluxe wheel)

There are actually TWO buttons that look like this - almost EXACTLY alike. These two buttons differ only EVER SO SLIGHTLY in the shading of the gold background. In EVERY OTHER respect they're exactly the same - yet carry very different part numbers. One of those goofy mysteries peculiar to Studebakers! No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

I've got a NOS one like this and also a rough used one. I also have a few of the tri-star ones in various conditions. None for sale at this time BTW.
The tri-star ones and rough "S" one that came from a "late" '53 K all have grey paint on the back side. The NOS one has white (or off white) paint on the back.
I wonder if that doesn't account for the difference in the P/Ns and the apparent shade of gold? I suspect the NOS one with white paint is for a '55...

I agree with Your opinion concerning the year of Your NOS horn button ('55) with the 'white' reverse....the gold face color is considerably 'lighter' than the one listed here for $350.Originally posted by Jeff_H View PostQuote:

Speaking of horn buttons during the '53-'56 time period........It's pretty hard to beat the good looks of the '56 President (sedan only) horn button. The stylists put some time into that one! I run one on My Speedster...the 'PRESIDENT' lettering just seems to 'work'!

Not too long ago there was one of the 56 President rear quarter medallions being offered as a horn button. I agree the design is a beauty. What's curious is he virtually non-descript button that was developed for the '57 sedans. And the weird coloration they used on it. Must've turned that project over to some junior designer. No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Yes, the '57 sedan button really isn't anything to get excited about.Originally posted by Roscomacaw View PostNot too long ago there was one of the 56 President rear quarter medallions being offered as a horn button. There seems to be some confusion/misinformation here on 1953 horn buttons. All 1953s had the tri-star. This was not an early vs. late thing.Gary L.
