  • Avanti Production

Looking at my Avanti build sheet & see it has tinted glass. Was Studebaker the 1st company to offer tinted glass on their cars, as they were with front disc brakes ??

Also, were the Studebaker Avntis assembled the same way the Avanti II's were or, did they use the same production type as the Larks & Hawks ??

I don't know who was the first to offer tinted glass, but my bet would be on GM. It was available (at least on Cadillac, Buick, and Olds) in the early 1950s.

1952 was the first year Studebaker offered Solex glass as on option.

Don't know if they invented it, but PPG says they introduced Solex to the auto industry for the 1952 model year.

I thought the Avanti was the first US made car with disc brakes as standard equipment, Chrysler was the first with disc brakes but was an option.

Would be interesting to do a search as to how many dozen times this subject has been covered on this forum.

Crosley began equipping all their cars, wagons and trucks with disc brakes in 1949.

                        thnx, jv.
