  • Bucket Seats to suit 1962 Lark

Hi All, A friend said he was intending to put reclinable buckets in the Lark he just got from me, but "they are hard to source."

He has a 1962 Lark 4 door sedan - can anybody supply a set (headrests too if available but not vital).

Photos, cost etc. and I'll pass the details on.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I'm not sure if you are looking for original seats, or any type of seat that would serve the purpose. I put late 90's Nissan Maxima seats (not sure what they call it down-under) in my '64 Daytona 4 door. I've included a picture. I opted to use these because while being a single, bucket type seat they had some "girth" that seemed more appropriate than the skinny bucket seats found in most of the cars today. I had to make right angle brackets for the front and use a short piece of tubing to support the rear, inward part of the seat.

One thing I found was that the steering column is not straight (parallel) front to back in the car. If you take a string and attach it to the bottom of the column, keeping it in line, you will find that it angle towards the drivers taillight. If the seats are put in "straight" the driving position will seem awkward. Thus, I angled my seats inward. This took considerable trial and error before everything felt correct. Otherwise, it felt like the steering wheel was offset to the side, or I had to position my leg at a odd angle to work the gas pedal.

Thanks, it was called the Maxima here too. The advice on angling the seats is welcome. Information passed on to my friend.

Interesting on the steering column.. I noticed that as well and corrected with thick washers until it was a bit more straight. I just thought the guy on the left side was drinking a bit the day before and goofed up. But nice seat install. I've seen High backs that just ruin the view in the car!
