  • Wanna buy a Silver Hawk?

Had the GT Hawk out to a car show today, and came across this beauty, I figured some of you might have an interest in. The 'son' is selling it for his dad, and if I understand him correctly, this Silver Hawk has been stored in a garage for some time.

Again, if I understood him correctly, it is pretty much an original car, but with a 'repaint' sometime it is lifetime, and of course the aftermarket wheels/tires and exhaust (which he says is waaayyy too quiet for him). Chrome and brightwork is quite good...some minor pitting on the lower pieces in front though.

It is a 1960 Silver Hawk, with auto tranny and P/S...not sure on brakes, and a refurbished 259 V8. The seller did allude to there being a fair amount of "wiggle room" on the price. Here are some pics for your consideration.

The ph number shown is said to be "on all the time", and he welcomes any questions.

Wow! Another Battery Hold-Down delete car! [:0]

And with the positive post in the left front position, it won't take but one good corner to find out how well the painter can metal-finish the hood and spot in that color. [V] BP

Or one good 'bump' on some of these really "smooth" Iowa back roads. I'd bet the resultant fireworks would be rather spectacular.

Hadn't noticed that "Battery Hold Down Delete" though.....good call in pointing that out,

No such thing as a Silver Hawk in 1960, last Silver Hawk was built in 1959. Someone must have found a Silver Hawk emblem and put it on.
Unless it is a 1959 retitled as a 1960 since it has a 259 engine.

Well; if you install the correct battery: Group 24 instead of 24F (Ford) and you install it correctly (negative forward), besides the extra clearance for the (+) post in the rear, you also get more hood clearance on the engine side or INBOARD side of the tray!

Incidentally, this appears to be a 1960 "Hawk", not a Silver Hawk as they were called '57-'59, it has the wrong decklid trim, should be the "Studebaker" block letters, but then again this is somewhat of a Custom anyway with Olds tailights, wild, two tone yellow & Red Interior etc.

Gee, guess I really stirred up a hornet's nest, huh? It's located in Atlantic, Iowa....and I am only repeating what the fella said about it, in regards to it's being a '60 Silver hawk.

That's why I included all the pics, so you guys would know what it is.

I'm still the "newby" here in such matters. As far as the engine, at first he said it as some other (lessor) cubic inch size, then when he found that mine is a 289, he corrected himself and said his is a 259.

He doesn't really know much about it either, as it is his 80 yr old dad's Stude that he is selling, for his 80 yr old dad.

As Elton John once said, "Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player".

                            ?????

What "hornet's nest"?? All I see is people clarifying what the car is for informational purposes... lots of folks like to regale those of us with limited knowledge with their impressive detail recall- nothing wrong with that, is there?

That's all helpful if someone is wondering if they're looking at a show car; for me- in this case- it didn't matter; as the saying goes, "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like!!"

Even if it has that horrible battery error...
