There was an Avanti in the background in last nights episode of "Rods N Wheels". It was in the scene where they were trying to sell a cobbled together 67 Mustang GT for $25k. It was a black Avanti or early Avanti II. It was a good looking car.

It had a roof side emblem, so I believe it was a Studebaker Avanti.Originally posted by evilhawk View PostThere was an Avanti in the background in last nights episode of "Rods N Wheels". These clucks claimed the Mustang was a real GT, but I wonder how they determined this. There are 10 times as many fakes as there are real GT's.
The only way to prove it...is to get the hidden VIN, use it to get a Marti Report, which the clucks made no mention of.Last edited by WinM1895; 03-04-2014, 03:08 PM.

They aren't fakes. They call them "tribute cars" these days. They just don't always advertise them as such.Originally posted by WinM1895 View Post

Back to Studes in movies. I'm relying on my quickly fading memory here. Years ago I recall seeing on TV the "Dick Tracy" movie starring Warren Beatty. In a very quick crash scene, I recall what looked to me to be a '37 coupe (judging by the grille and the bat-wing rear window) being t-boned (sadly) by an airborne four door sedan of some non-Stude make. Can anyone out there prove or disprove my memory?

A white GT show up at 16 minutes into this episode of Adam-12.
It's from 1970, so if it survived that long I wonder if it's still with us?
Also the episode features a 69 Shelby GT 350 in blue and a neat Challenger convertible, several Porsches and a C3 Corvette.63 Avanti R1 2788

Im sorry to get off subject with this, but I agree with you. I have my doubts the car was a true big block GT. If it was, wouldnt they have atleast tried to give it a proper restoration instead of simply throwing some paint on it and selling "as is"? Rods N Wheels has to be the most obviously scripted car related "reality show" on TV.

WinM1895: Jackass Mail: The car shows up just moments before the credits when the young grandson of the Wallace Beery character ask his mother if grandfather was a horse thief, while standing in front a statue of his grand parents, with the Studebaker in the background. Caught me by surprise too.

It never fails, Beery's (Wallace, Noah, Noah Jr.) names were constantly misspelled by TV Guide, newspapers and etc.Originally posted by fatboylust View PostWinM1895: Jackass Mail: The car shows up just moments before the credits when the young grandson of the Wallace Beery character ask his mother if grandfather was a horse thief, while standing in front a statue of his grand parents, with the Studebaker in the background. And to make matters worse, when Noah Beery Jr. died, Forest Lawn goofed by passing out memorial cards for Noah Berry Jr.
I attended his funeral which was held at Forest Lawn in Glendale. When his daughter complained they had misspelled her dads name, I added .. "as usual."
Jim Rogers, Will Rogers youngest son, was a long time friend of Pidge's (Noah Jr's nickname), told an amusing story about goats.Last edited by WinM1895; 03-11-2014, 05:44 PM.

Was watching TMC this afternoon and saw a short movie from 1950 called Experiment Alcatraz. Much to my surprise near the beginning of the movie there is a great shot of a late 40's Studebaker almost all alone in a big parking lot. Later in an interior shot from a building in Lake Tahoe I was watching cars go by outside a large picture window and a nice light colored 1950 Studebaker rolled by. I tried to find some screen shots online but was unable to. It may play again if anyone is interested. Watch your program guide.Ed Sallia

In the Tuesday LA Times, there is a front page story on the fading business district of Pacific Palisades. Continued on page A10, there's a pic taken in 1956 of Swarthmore Avenue.
Front & center, there it is, staring you in the face: 1950 Studebaker!Last edited by WinM1895; 03-13-2014, 05:22 PM.
