  • Avanti VIN number

I am currently doing an appraisal on a 1963 Avanti. According to the owner, the VIN number is "1251". However the tag on the right fender apron is 63R Q 431 (see attached). There is no data plate on the firewall to indicate paint number, interior etc. The owner also indicated that the car originally had a super-charger, however it is missing and all there is is a 289 V8.

    Any help would be appreciated.

That is the body tag, not the Serial #. The serial # is on a plate on the frame rail below the location of the body #, you may have to remove some crud to see it.

Check the Engine Serial Number STAMPED into the flat machined pad at the Left Front, Top corner of the block to see if the Engine is actually a R1 = RXXXX, or a R2 Supercharged = RSXXXX.
