  • Many good thoughts and ideas in this thread, and it sounds like Bobby has plenty of driving experience - and he probably did the best he could in that situation.

I don't remember any late model Camaro ever achieving a 5 star crash rating. Sadly, even if they did, the insurance industry rates the late model F-body cars as one of the highest fatality rates. All the safety gear cannot protect against really bad driving decisions.

My business is commercial trucks, but occaisionally my customers need car or truck for their son or daughter. For the young first time driver I spend a little time telling them not to do anything stupid - and especially not to let their "friends" talk them into any car driving stunts. I also tell them that talking on a cell phone is the same as driving drunk - to reinforce this I ask them to look at the next slow driving swerving driver they see and to make a mental note if they can see the person is on the phone.

    • Curious ... now that we know all will survive .. is the car realy not
salvageable? Frame bent? New front sheet metal might fix it? My Hawk
looked something awful after I hit a Subaru back in high school. The
hood side stepped damage, the fender took the brunt. New fender and
it was back on the road. No dice here?

            • Thanks for that link, Tom- I also would have guessed the Camaro would have had less than a 5-star rating [:I]

I've always kind of liked the 93-up style, but reading what you taught us about these have increased my interest in these cars... who knows- maybe when I've got my Stude collection where I want it.........[]

                • Anne, sorry about your son's accident. But old cars can always be replaced. People can't. Glad he and his friends will be okay.

                        • Sorry for the thread hijacking, Anne.

For some reason they get discounted pretty easily and tossed aside. I
found out years ago on the Stude newsgroup that most didnt know the
Camaro has been a hatchback since 1982!![B)]

There IS a Stude connection with the 93-2002, its the base that Avanti
Motors used for the AVX, and eventually the production models. So it
seems that Avanti did their homework on them as well. So by buying a
4th Gen (93-02) Camaro or Firebird, you have an Avanti "cousin".
