  • '56 President

Last night, at a weekly show & shine, I meet a guy that had worked for the dog trainer out of Petaluma, Ca. This was the place where the auction was held a couple months ago of all the Stude stuff. He said the owner hadn't much money so paid him with a car. This is what I find strange. He said the car is a '56 President 2dr sedan stick shift & OD. Met.green with snow cap white. I didn't know they had a 2dr President. He said it has a Sweepstakes 289.
Anyone know of one? I thought it would be a Commander but they were 259s. Am I wrong?

There was indeed a 2 door President in '56~
There are not too many of those left~ I only know of about four of them...

If you should happen to see him again, try to get the info for my Registry, and maybe a picture- PLEASE!!! Here's a link:

Now that will be real neat if that metallic green is Ceramic Green; a shade reserved only for Golden Hawks and Presidents. It will be the first 2-door President that I've heard of in that color.

My Father in law had a 1956 2 door President it was sold to Tom Hart in Washington State, they are as rare as hen's teeth....... Ton's car is black and white.

OK I lied....I'll do it again for the "right" car, I love the chase.....

Yup, there were indeed, 2-dr President sedans! Pretty rare, they are. '57 was the last year they offered them. None for 1958 - 2dr sedans, that is(although it would be EASY to make one out of a Champion 2-dr sedan). The 2-dr President for '58 was the hardtop, J-body version.
The late, great Studebaker enthusiast, Leonard Ainsworth used to drive a '56 Pres 2-dr wherever he went. Had an aftermarket continental kit on it. I've wondered whatever became of that car after his untimely death in a seaplane some years ago. Anybody know what became of Leonard's Studes and Stude stuff? He had both his daughters driving Larks - in fact the girls and their Larks were once on the cover of TW some time back.
I miss Leonard. He was a cool guy.[V]

                1953 Commander coupe

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

That must have been the one that was at Spokane in '05 with the dual rear antennae. It is a very nice car; appears the seats were covered with clear vinyl since new!!

This one was auctioned off near Carlisle, Pa in 2003

I have seen several 56 President 2dr. sedans and they have all been black & white.

Thanks, for the info. When this guy came up to me at my car he looked and seemed to be some one down on his luck. Maybe even with only one oar in the water. After I talked with him a while he seemed to have all the right ansures. If I see him again I will see if I can see the car and get some numbers. Said car is not running.
