1955 Studebaker Commander Trunk Color?

I need to know the name of the color for the trunk of a 1955 Commander. It seemed to be a light grey? Also is the underside of the trunk lid body color or the grey also? Thank you in advance. I am doing this in Base / Clear Coat

Body colour, from what I've seen.

The trunk had no other color than the Grey, but under the Trunk Lid I have no Idea? It was Grey also. The car is Windsor Blue ( bottom) / Shasta White (top)

The trunk lid underside of my 55C and 55K were both body colour (black in my case). I have seen the grey (with blue and white spatters) on the inside of the wheel wells and trunk floor. Don't know if that was factory or a repaint.. Good luck.

I too have asked this question (trunk colour) and received no definitive answer. I believe it is supposed to be light grey but I have "never" seen a '55 painted light grey with perhaps one exception (not sure about that). Most have been body colour, that being said in literature that I have read trunk colour was stated as grey with perhaps exceptions for those cars produced in Los Angeles. Trunk lids I believe body colour.

Thanks Guy's...Maybe further discussion will come up with more answers...I want to paint the underside of the trunk body color and the rest light grey inside....Just wondering if it was original like that...Also it would be great to know the name of the gray paint if possible...I may just have to find a paint code from Studebaker near that year that is a light Gray...

The trunk area was painted a nondescript grey-beige color generally called "greige" by Studebaker historians.

The underside of the trunk lid is painted greige on South Bend cars and body color on Los Angeles cars.

Ah the joy of owning a confusing '55
My Canadian coupe was oringinally Pima red- and the trunk and lid were Pima Red down to the metal when I repainted them
My cousin has a Pima red south Bend commander coupe which had grey down to the metal-- and his is the only '55 I've ever seen that wasn't body color

To: B. Murrey,-----As far as South Bend production goes, I also believe that RadioRoy is correct on this often asked question. ( I'm unsure on the LA and Canadian built Studes.)

At the moment she's at Lawrence Transmission in Toronto. It's a DG200M with 1st gear start. Seems the 1st/reverse band is a little burnt (lol). When it comes back I have the other side of stainless dual exhaust to install (thanks Don Simmons) and a new timing cover seal (thanks S.I.). Then she gets her yearly oil treatment and three car covers for the winter. Cheers, Sn-60.

Strata Gray# 8859, Studebaker Engineering paint symbol: KFN.

Now if you really want to go into that much detail ...and get it ALL correct to factory's own specs...order yourself a copy of the Studebaker Engineering Paint Speciifcations for the 1955 model year from the SNM Archives. You should ask for a copy of the pages in the binder labeled "Studebaker Engineering Paint Specifications P-5500"

To: warrlaw1,---- Our '55's are almost twins! (that's why I wanted to see more pics) I envy Your hood line where it meets the center grille....it looks to be almost perfect. Mine is up about 3/8" due to
needed extra clearance for the supercharger. Thanks for posting pictures! (That sandblast shot is really something)
