Does anyone know where I can get two (2) rear deck trim strips for '65 Cruiser?

I am almost finished with the "restoration" of my '64 and '65 Cruisers. Freshly painted and with all the trim off, I was sort of sorry I did not have all the trim attachment holes filled because these sedans have such a nice design and clean appearance. Oh well, now I am thinking of replacing the '64's large aluminum "STUDEBAKER" rear deck panel with two simple strips (holes already present) from the '65 model. I think this mild "custom" would look better, and I don't plan on having this car judged, as the interior chrome plate has significant corrosion from spending most of its life in coastal southern California. What do you think? Let me know if you know where I could find these trim strips and attaching clips. Thanks.

remember a while back an attractive lady was pulling parts off a cruiser or a commander in a junk yard and was saying how fine the stainless is. I was looking for her post but can not find it. If anyone remembers please help a brobaker (studebaker brother) out and pass along that information.

That was me (you're very kind, K-Hawk). There's a 64 Commander nearby with good stainless side trim, though the right side rear quarter piece has gone to a new home. Is that what you're looking for, Jack? Or ar you looking for rear trim from a 65 to put on your 64?

Being an owner of a '65, I really prefer the treatment on the '65 over that of a '64. To me it is a little cleaner looking. That said the '64 isn't bad it is just that I prefer the plainer '65.

I have the piece that goes in the "center" of the trunk lid (the one that always gets hit). And I have the two long pieces that join together just above the gas cap.

Thanks, Bob. I have the large horizontal overlay, in "pretty good" condition, but not NOS. I have reached the point where "good enough" is satisfactory, as I am adverse in spending twice as much as the new car cost in 1964 to make it look "better than new". I have already done that with the blue '65. Yesterday I got the door panels back on (in "very good" condition), and will eventually post photos of the completed '65 Cruiser. I opted for vinyl "nauguahyde" to replace the raggy cloth interior. The 1964 horizontal overlay is pictured as it appears on my dining room floor.

I have one center trunk molding. I have two sets (one shown) of the 3 piece deal that goes below the deck lid, above the gas cap. That 3 piece setup is what you need, right?

Nice photo. I made a mistake in the PM I sent you (which you have not read). I need 2 of the shorter one-piece center trim from the '65, plus clips. Let me know by PM what you want for the single one-piece center trim. I wanted one for the top rows of holes on the '64 and one for the bottom row of holes on the trunk. Thanks. I also have a bunch of side trim for a '56 or '57 sedan (I think) in California, plus clips. Would you be interested? Jack in Montana

Now I understand what you mean. Before I tell you what I want for it, take the center strip off of your other car and make sure it will even fit where you want it to. Given the different angles I'm not sure that a center strip would fit on the top and bottom of the deck lid. The center trim was also used on '64 Daytonas, and is a rare piece in nice condition. Also, not exactly cheap.

I'm not in the market for any stainless. I have around 2000 pieces of trim that I want to get rid of as it is.

Before I buy anything "not exactly cheap", I will have to find a "mate" for it in comparable condition, as I need a pair. I did measure both trunk lids and angles in center and top/bottom. Close enough for a nice fit, in fact, exactly the same except for the slight ridge in the center. Not going to remove the center strip from my freshly-painted Malibu Blue '65 Cruiser.
