  • Anyone have the front and rear bumpers from a '53 and '54-64 available to photograph and measure?

I personally much prefer the slim integrated look of the front and rear bumpers and bumper guards on the '53 C/K cars. (I actually prefer the cars without any bumper guards at all, but that's another discussion.)

I mentioned this in a discussion and a couple of longtime SDCers didn't even realize there was a difference. They thought all bumpers were interchangeable. It would be instructive to many here to see the exact height difference between the two designs and the measurements thereof.

Anyone have loose bumpers or even two cars to sit side by side? Post photos and measurements?

Anyone have the chronology at hand? IIRC, the '53 was the clean one. The '54-up had the big clunky front bumper guards and '64 was back to no bumper guards. What else should we know about C/K bumpers?

I know there was a first and second design on the bumper arms, on the 53. There were some that U.S. and Canadian went back and forth on part numbers in 53 and possibly 54. I think I have a 53, front and rear, I can shoot. Maybe a 55

On C/K cars, the bumper bars are the same for 1953-1954 and the same for 1955-1964. 1953s used the neat, short bumperettes and 1954 used the tall bumperettes.
The '53-'54 front bumper has an upper front section with a curve that carries through to the grille and hood. This was a design feature.

To: studegary,----I believe that there is a difference between the '55 and the '56-'64 'Hawk Type' front bumper brackets. Not just that the '55 front bumper has the extra bumper bolt, but more importantly, the
        location of the bracket to frame horn holes....if I recall correctly, there's a 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" difference between '55 & '56.

That is why I specifically stated: "the bumper bars are the same". I meant this to exclude a difference in holes, etc. and to indicate that the size and curvature was the same for those years.
