Sorry for the typo. The Lincoln Continental convert was a 68, not an 88.

Close, but no cigar (unless my memory is off). I remember that series of convertibles (four door) as ending in 1967.

I bet our family has spent well over 50K on the Avanti during the past 46 yrs of ownership. The car is a great 20 footer...she needs paint but thats all...everytime she goes out there will be at least one driver on the hwy to blow his horn and shoot a thumbs up....last month a a Dodge Viper passed me...got in front of me and we both gave each other z big thumbs up....it's not how fast the car will go...as so many *** rice burners will kick it's arz........but the looks the comments....that is the pride of Avanti ownership...knowing that Egbert Loewy Andrews and Kellogg created a design for all time..indeed Tom Kellogg called the Avanti "COSMIC"

Avanti Motors used that concept and took it further...the exclusivity, uniqueness, build quality, resale value (at the time) and the company's ability to personalize the car beyond what big car makers could do. Performance was mentioned almost as an afterthought.

If you want a practical car, buy an econobox. If you want a grand touring car that will get you there in style and quickly, you buy a grand touring car. To each his own. I could save a lot of money in my life if all I wanted was a vehicle to get me from point A to point B. I simply want something more for myself...for enjoyment and pride.

          Bob,
In the future you should consider attending the Long Branch, New Jersey fathers day car show...all cars are parked on the boardwalk....this yr almost 800 cars...amazing!!!

The owner is making progress on his R-1 and it has only been running for a month. It will get a new a new paint job which it badly needs. He already is looking for an R-2, but he says he intends to keep his first Avanti. Always glad to see another Avanti get up and running.

It is agreed that Studebakers get a lot of attention at shows and cruise-ins...Avantis included. It is amazing how many people bring up Raymond Loewy's name. Our Avanti received as much attention as the Ferrari on the other end of the row.
