  • Time capsule '39 President Eight

    Hi

If this '39 President Eight is a verifiable all-original, as-South-Bend-built-it example, it should be in the SNM collection for display as a document of that era:

We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

I've never seen the car, but there are a lot of Studes in Georgia that I don't know about. There's also a '38 President sedan with dual sidemounts around here, but it's been a couple of years since I've seen it.

If I had the cash I'd bring it home.

I was not aware of this particular car but '39 President sedans are not particularly rare (as prewar Studebakers go). I owned one long ago. I note he has painted the bumper guard inserts and the name plate (on the bumper) red. All from the factory were black. There was another '39 President near Rockford IL on Ebay last month. Yes this would be identical to Dale's car.

How times change. This car reminds me a lot of my 1940 President. It was also a black four door with original interior, paint, etc. I also had new chrome grilles and other parts and replated hood side pieces with the car. I had a hard time giving the car away. I finally gave it away, with transport, to Maine.

                with about 15 minutes left, i can't believe it's still under $8K.

this really depresses me that i can't get it right now.

                      wow! $8,111.11 bought it.

other than being homeless next month, i didn't see anywhere in the "narrative" that she "runs, drives & stops"... another reason i didn't do something "stoopid"

Almost a twin to mine. As Dick pointed out the bumper guards have been painted red whereas mine have a black painted accent. I also have a center bumper guard that I have not seen on any other cars. The center guard has black accent and matches the other guards. I'm not sure the center guard is original but it sure looks to be.
That car on Ebay went for a fairly cheap price at 8K considering what the Commanders go for.
