  • Trim paint for 8E40 trucks

In March Craig provided me with the paint code for Parchment white. A paint shop mixed the paint with no problem. Thanks Craig.

I have two more questions about paint on that truck.

What is the paint code for the tan on the door panels and the seat frame? I know I've seen it at the bottom of an old chip chart but I've slept since then.

All the truck grilles, bumbers, splash pans behind the bumper, "Studebaker" hood inserts, and assist handles behind the doors are white. Is that a parchment white or did Studebaker use a plain generic white? My paint was so faded that I couldn't tell.

    Thanks,

OK I've done some research and found someone on e-bay who took a really good picture of a 1963 truck paint chart. The number for the "Luggage tan" color is Ditzler 22315. It also mentions that the lower color on all two tone trucks is Parchment White. I didn't see anything about the color of the grille, bumper, etc. Any thoughts??

    Thanks,

All of the "Trim" items you mention like all of the C2 Standard Cab 3E, 4E & (5E-8E C2 & C4) painted items including the Wheels, Bumper, Mirrors, Grille, Assist Handles, Gas Cap, Hood Ornament, Hd. Lt. Rims, and Turn Signals were not stark White as in Refrigerator or GM White. They were quite OFF-White, creamy white, no they do not quite match the Parchment White either.
      Splash Pans were Black.

        Trim colors on 8E40s

Thanks for your input on the colors. Yup the splash pans are black, I should have known that since I picked up several of them when Denis was having his "close out" sale. I have a rattle can color converto kit to take care of the pan. The wheels on the pickups were white. The wheels on the big trucks were black, please see page 35 of the March 2012 Turning Wheels as a reference.

        Thanks again,

Thumb nail on my last reply

When I was cleaning up the undercoating on the truck I uncovered the body tag. It says 8E T6. Someone at the factory fell asleep. The truck is an 8E40A155. I've serviced this farm truck since about 1975 and I bought the truck from the son-in-law of the original owner about 4 years ago. I know that the tag came from the factory with that tag on it. Go figure??!!
