luster on high cast nickel content ?

Has this already been posted? did a quick search.
A wire wheel should shine this stuff up nice & quick but then what, High temp clear coat?
Am i just wasting time here or should i just paint all the cast . How long before it gets corroded again? better yet any easier methods?

Good point. Stude engine block and any other nickel on the running gear.

Stude blocks are cast iron. Strip the paint and make it shiny, it'll be rusty in no time.

It's just cast iron, same as the frying pan on the stove.....really. (just much prettier)

I'm not a fan of powder coating myself. I have a 2000 Western snow plow that came from the factory with a powder coat finish but it peeled off in sheets (not just the front side but the back side too) leaving behind a very deeply rusted plow. It would be in good condition today had it been primered and painted.

I had a beat up old pickup once that I painted the engine with high temp engine paint from a rattle can just for kicks. It looked great, and lasted at least 5 years ( when I sold it ).

agree with the high temp engine paint instead of a powder coat. i also use "calyx" on cast iron exhaust manifolds - a small touch-up may be required after 6 to 9 months.

Powder is no different from liquids in respect to prep. Sheeting off of powder points to improper phospatizing, or insufficient cure. As with most things, it's all in the details.

I think you missed posts #4 and #5. The block is cast iron, same as any other block. Because the nickel content is a little higher makes no difference in appearance, or prep, or finish. It's not going to 'shine' no matter what you do; I'm thinking you're picturing something like what you get when you polish aluminum, right? And, powder coat and clear coat will react exactly the same way on Stude parts as anything else.
