Priced to sell

This guy has relisted this Avanti parts car six times so far ($300 in ebay fees) and never changes his description or asking price. I wrote him once trying to save him his ebay fees, but he won't listen to any advice.

I seem to recall that someone mentioned that he is mostly a MOPAR guy and tends to be high on his prices. I believe that he has come down a couple of grand on his price, but one would think he could at least drag it out of the weeds.

The interesting thing about sending helpful Studebaker advice to an eBay seller is how they respond. I've had some entertaining exchanges, and some who used the info to change their listings. One guy even replied about how dumbass his ad looked after thinking about what kind of enthusiasts buy Studebakers - this was from a dealer who listed in his ad an Avanti street racing victory over some nameless Camaro (which probably wasn't really racing the Avanti).

After reading lots of eBay ads for Avantis I now realize that the single biggest source of crap stories and weird made up Studebaker history comes directly from the sellers!

Okay, I've seen that "Priced to sell" ad through numerous listings. The guy definitely has his own ideas, and there isn't anyone who will change his mind. What will probably happen is that because no buyers are willing to deal with his crap, that he will badmouth Stude nuts as morons because they are too stupid to see things his way.

My guess is the car is much worse than it looks. There is a theory held by certain eBay sellers that no description of condition allows a enthusiastic/inexperienced buyer to assume/hope it is a solid, sound car. When the buyer gets a rusted hunk of junk, the seller can say truthfully, "It was described as a parts car. No more, no less."

I guess it's true Studebakers sell for less than other brands, and that's great for those who want to buy Studebakers. But it sure seems the Avantis, Hawks and GT Hawks fetch a very high price compared to Larks.

That is fine with me, as I really want to get a Lark before too long. Let's see, wish list: 1960 2 door Lark VIII Wagon, or a 1963 Custom or Cruiser, with a V8 of course.

There was a '57 President Classic on ebay about 2 years ago. It was priced CHEAP and looked like a decent, unrestored car. The seller knew little about it (as was evident from his ad) and so I wrote him with some minor corrections.
To my surprize, he not only thanked me for the advice but asked how I would present to car to entice someone into buying it(it didn't get one bid the first time around).
I told him what and how to photograph and what to say both good an bad about it and he followed my advice to the letter. It sold for more than he'd hoped on the next go-around!
He even bothered to write and thank me after the sale.

Of course, then you get the ones that reply: Bid or shut up!
