On my site... somewhere... I forget the number but the latest owner removed that grille and restored the front end to original

A couple of years ago at the York swap meet I saw an Avanti with the script mounted at an angle like that. I've no idea if it's the same car with the center section restored.

The car got some press a couple of years ago.
They said the grile was from a Porsche 356.

I remember a '64 square light Avanti offered for sale in the A.O.A. magazine some years ago that had
a '48-'50 Packard 'ox-yoke' grille grafted into the center of the nose panel....equally distastefull!

Gee, that must be a standard Studebaker part that was used for the grille, at least they were used on the all the Larks with Porsche engines in the rear.

Now that's a grill. I can visualize half-dozen hot dog's and a few burgers sizzling away.
I 'spect they also had a fitted picnic hamper in the trunk.

I believe it was early last year when this car was discussed here or on the Avanti forum. The current owner responded that he had the car at the body shop getting work done. Restoring the front end to original was one of the priorities. Kudos to the owner. Some have tried, but all have failed to improve upon the original design.

On another front end note, I had a clear bra put on my 76 last week before doing a 1400 mile trip with it. 3M makes the product. A detail shop put it on in around 3 hours. I was very easy to clean off and is nearly invisible on the car. The attached shot is focused on the border of the film. I think it will cut down on all the bug hits, rock chips and touch up needed for the Avanti's distinctive front end.

Now when is someone going to chime in and say things like "but it's his car, he can do what he wants," or "some people like to customize things and we shouldn't act mean to them?"

In my opinion, almost all of the customs and modifieds end up being less attractive than cars that are built stock. In other words, I agree that this mod is butt ugly, bit I also think that most of the other mods people do are butt ugly as well.
