Avanti goes for a ride? Again? Now that would be two vintage worlds meeting like they never have before. Sure cars and planes do shows together, but that would be too cool to see that one land and an Avanti roll out of the back!! small world.

Are you trying to say that the bird in RQ's post is still registered with that 'N' number?
I'm pretty sure there aren't but about two or three of those Packets left in the World.
It'd be pretty darn cool to know that the one in the pic is one of them!!!

But you know, as cool as those birds above might be...
I've always told myself that if I ever 'hit it big' that I'd go after this bird~

and put her back in the air!!! She's the one and only Mini Guppy...

N5102B taken several years ago. FAA records are not known to be up to date at all.

Love the Tillamook blimp hanger. It would be very hard to see, but if they opened that center-left door a little more there is a basketball hoop at the top of the door way! That place is so big it's hard to see it standing right under it. Let's see.."over the rafters, off the Guppy, nothin' but net."

Could PBA could be the originating airline being discussed? My cousin who always worked in aviation was quite familiar with PBA (Provincetown Boston Airlines) which grew at one time to be the largest US commuter airline. He mentioned the Van Arsdales who founded the company and some of the family resides in Naples which was probably their furthest destination other than Key West. They shifted planes according to the number of passengers to be transported. The link discusses the array of planes used by PBA through the years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinc...oston_Airlines

As do I-- that is one REALLY BIG wooden building!!!
I'll take your word as to the b-ball hoop being there- I must'a been payin' too much attention to all of the sweet old birds inside that BIG building to notice it.
Maybe I'll catch it next time~ I think they still do that car show once a year?
I see no mention as yet on their website~

Actually I have a half dozen photos of that Avanti unloading. Here is another showing the registration number on the airplane.

Old thread, but the original plane in these photos is in Wyoming. The Greybull Hawkins & Powers (before they were grounded by the FAA) had it for refittment.

The actual plane used for the airlift is in Greybull, Wyoming, like Brad says above. A second similar plane was refurbished and flown to the Fairchild Aircraft museum hanger in Hagerstown, Maryland and was brought out in July 2014 for an Avanti gathering. This particular plane was used most recently by TWA to fly parts and engines for their jetliners.
