Public thanks are hereby tendered to SDCer Jack Shiver of Albuquerque NM, for helping a young SDC serviceman en route to San Diego from central Indiana.
Young Jesse Moon, on active duty in the U. S. Navy, wanted to drive his 1953 Champion Coupe (Page 18, May 2005 Turning Wheels) from Central Indiana to San Diego the last week in June. He had to report to his ship Sunday, July 1, or be in whatever big trouble they get into for not showing up.
He and a fellow Sailor traveling in Jesse's Champion encountered trouble in New Mexico near Albuquerque, with the dual-carb setup he had installed on the replacement 185 engine in the car. Jesse's Dad Rick Moon called to see who I might know in the area that might be able to lend Jesse a hand. I recommended Jack Shiver, in that I know he has a good knowledge of carburetion and such.
Rick called Jack on Jesse's behalf and Jack and Jesse got together right away. Jack fixed Jesse up and had him on his way promptly, even with some extra parts. Jesse made it to his duty assignment on time as a direct result of Jack's assistance.
This is the sort of help that keeps our youngest members enthused about their Studebakers and The Studebaker Drivers Club. Again, Jack, many thanks; you're "what it's all about" in SDC!
