  • 57 Golden Hawk AC

    Hello folks;
    I am restoring a 57 Golden Hawk and was wondering if anyone knows if AC was an option on 57's either factory or dealer installed. My car does not have AC but would like to add if possible. Thanks for any help.

    To: AJHAWK,----- An aftermarket a/c system with small 'Sanden' type compressor would definitely be the way to go. The factory setups were the definition of the term 'Mechanics Nightmare!'

      Is your big concern authenticity? If so, yes, I know of at least one with factory air. Unfortunately it has gone overseas. Per post #1, the factory setup was very heavy and complicated. If you have power steering- even worse. To fit everything in the power steering pump became the rear end of the generator. Want to try to change plugs on that? If you just want cool, SN-60's post is the answer.

            Looks really good, but it appears that the Supercharger is just for looks? There is no belt on the Blower.

              Pic was taken during assembly. Air cleaner and blower belt are on now.

                To; kirkdob,-------- What a clean installation of a/c on a Golden Hawk. You've certainly made a nice car even nicer. Really can't beat having a/c on a hot and humid day. Your Father And Grandfather would be thrilled!!
                I noticed Your running an SN-60 supercharger. Another Forum visitor is thinking of making that change to His '57 Golden. Hope He sees Your photo.

                    I remember when I was a kid hearing that sound when the supercharger bearings went bad. My dad would get out and pull the belt off while mumbling a few good ones about the G-D supercharger. That was back in the day when there was an authorized parts/ service shop in Millbrae CA that sold the blowers. They suggested he tried the "new" type with a fixed pulley. The current charger went on in about 1968 and has been there ever since. I've thought about converting back, but never have. There are only a few updgrades from original on the car. Obviously the AC and supercharger, plus turner front discs and radial tires. I built it to be a driver with a little extra comfort and safety. I saw that article by the other owner. Most likely he'll see this. If he has any questions he can contact me of course.

                    Other than that it's correct down to the original color scheme.
