Need Advice on Stuff to see in South Bend

I am planning to make my first pilgrimage to South Bend this spring. Other than the museum, what sites do you consider a must see while I am there?

I enjoy visiting the antique stores in the area. You will find some cool Studebaker stuff!

The former Chippewa St. Truck Plant where Studebaker International has located it's store and the remaining store of South Bend parts. Chippewa St. is a short distance Northwest the Fairgrounds, and once you turn west on Chippewa St. off of Michigan (it is the first stoplight north of the stoplight at Michigan and Ireland Road), you will drive to the well marked entrance with a Circle "S" sign.

Besides the chance to look over and get some goodies, you will see where Studebaker built trucks and aircraft engines in the 40's and 50's. It's a pretty elaborate campus, that houses several other businesses besides SI today.

The two remaining in use large buildings in the downtown Studebaker Corridor can be seen at the corners of Bronson and Main (Administration Building), and Bronson and Lafayette (4 story Body Plant).

Also besides what was mention , a drive through and around ND University is worth doing, that is an amazine place .

You also MUST Try Tippecanoe Place for dinner one night. It's the old Studebaker Mansion and is now a restaurant. Food is excellent and the atmosphere is great!

I always stop by the South Bend Chocolate Factory when in town. The actual factory, not a store. From Main st and Sample, go west on Sample about 5-10 miles and it is on the south side. Free tours and they sell chocolate that is visually defective at a big discount. I usually buy a bag of chocolate turtles to bring home.

Tippecanoe Place can be a little pricey for dinner.......they're also open for brunch, which is cheaper. In any event, they let you walk around the house when you're done eating. Be sure to check out all the floors, we once accidently crashed a wedding reception.

Tippecanoe Place, SP proving ground, Oliver Mansion, Rose Brick (former Oliver plow boiler house), Studebaker Building #84 (Body plant), Studebaker Building #62 (AD building), South Bend Center For History, South Bend Motor Speedway (Saturday Night Only), Studebaker School (nothing too special, and I doubt you can get inside, but it's neat to see), St. Pauls church (Church built by Clement Studebaker. See June 2012 TW for more information)

Besides all of the good items already mentioned, check out the SDC/AOAI agenda in the February Turning Wheels. Unless you are going to be in South Bend for more than Sunday through Saturday, you will rapidly run out of time, especially if you leave a few hours for sleep and visiting. I only plan to be in South Bend from Sunday to Saturday, but I have seen the items mentioned.

I had to check where you are from when I read your post. I guess that cost is a relative thing. I have found Tippecanoe Place to be reasonably priced.

Last time I was there I still lived in SB.
