  • 53 accessory license plate guard

Could someone post some good pictures of the 53 accessory license plate frame? The one with the gold crest on top with "Studebaker". I would appreciate it very much. I know some of you have one NOS in the box. Thanks, Tex

This the one? I snagged this picture off ebay in 2000. Sorry no other views and I've never seen one in person.

EDIT: Found another ebay picture from 2000 of a different example. You can see the clear plastic lens.

I sold one of these on ebay about two years ago. I am not sure but think it brought about $125.

        '53 Tri-Star License Frames

Try and find one of those now! Probably $125.00 would just be the STARTING Bid.

I have seen a lot of very nice show Cars in my 44 years in SDC and have not seen one yet, the few that remain must all be wall hangings!

Well StudeRich, I guess the "Saturday Night Special" ought to feel kinda special, since he's an ol' street beater with one. I appreciate the pictures , gang. I am trying to refurbish mine and would like some close ups of one from all angles including the plastic cover. Anyone have any.
            THANKS again. Tex

Had that thought and did a big time waster of googling license plate frames images and could not find anything very close to this frame. I guess even adding a facsimille of
that crest on even a frame that was not a good match would fool most since these things are so rare that hardly anyone has ever seen one, even us.

              Tex,

I think I'd like to see pix of yours even if its a bit rough. Is it made of stainless or chromed pot metal? Is that chrest metal or plastic?

It's just like the one you posted. The different shaded in areas on the plastic is the difference. It's only for different license plate sizes. Mine is in great shape except the plastic and this is what I want to repaint and replace. The frame is stainless. I will get some pictures and post. Thanks, Tex

Tex, I hope you have that mounted with tamper-proof screws

For 1953, there were two types of accessory license plate frames. There was the plain (deLuxe, AC-181, $3.25) and the fancy (Strato-Styled, AC-2411 to AC-2419 [depending on size], $5.95). The 1953 Accessories brochure shows one picture of the plain one and five pictures of the fancy one (discussed here).
